We Offer 5 Types of Maples on our Farm: Sienna Glen, Matador, Fire Fall, Fall Fiesta, Autumn Blaze.
The colors of the maples in the fall that are given are directly correlated to your soil on your own location. The vivid color of the maples in the fall season may be different based on your soil. The colors listed for fall in each description are what are traditionally seen.
Sienna Glen
- Acer x freemanii Maple Family
- Hardy to zones 3-7, Full Sun
- Mature size is H x W: 50-60’ x 35-40’
This hardy and compact variety of maple tree is a hybrid cross of the Red and Silver Maple that grows into a pyramidal shape with a strong leader and dense foliage. This is often the replacement for the Ash tree and Autumn Blaze Maple. It can with stand the stronger winds due to its strong branches. This tree can also tolerate more ranged pH soil and is not as prone to chlorosis (yellowing of leaves due to inability to uptake iron properly). Its summer leaves are a dark green and a silvery underside, with red leaf stem. The fall colors are traditionally yellow to orange.
Matador
- Acer x freemanii Maple Family
- Hardy to Zones 4-7, Full Sun
- Mature Size is H x W: 40-45’ x 20-40’
This variety of maple tree is a hybrid cross of the Red and Silver Maple that grows into an upright oval shape with a strong leader and dense foliage. It makes a great wind break. This tree is not fussy about it’s soil pH. It is later to show its leaves in the spring and holds them longer in the fall, thus showing its fall colors longer than the rest. Its summer leaves are green and yellows and oranges in the fall.
Firefall Maple
- Acer x freemanii Maple Family
- Hardy to zones 3-7, Full Sun
- Mature Size is H x W: 50’ x 35’
This fast growing maple is a hybrid cross between the Silver Maple and Autumn Spire Red Maple. It has an upright oval growth habit and low tree branching starting at about 5’ off of the ground. This is considered to be a seedless maple tree, brought to you by the University of Minnesota! It is quite tolerant to many soil pH levels. This maple has rich green leaves in the summer and orange red to bright red leaves in the fall. This quick grower can help shade your location quickly.
Fall Fiesta Maple
- Acer saccharum
- Hardy to Zones 4-7, Full Sun to Part Shade
- Mature Size H x W: 50’ x 40’
This is a silver sugar maple family and is a little slower growing and is a more rounded upright shape with thicker leaves. This tree is a little more picky about its soil in that it doesn’t like a compact soil or any excess salt spray/runoff from the winter months here in Minnesota. It would enjoy a large landscape to spread its branches in. It has a dark green leaf in the summer and in the fall can be yellow, orange and then to red.
Autumn Blaze
- Acer x freemanii
- Hardy to Zones 3-8, Full Sun
- Mature Size H x W: 40’-60’ x 30’-50’
The Autumn Blaze Maple is a cross between the Red and Silver Maple. This tree has an upright growing form and can grow up to 3-5’ per year! It likes any soil but prefers well draining. While this tree is a beauty we would recommend it to be in a more protected area and not stand alone in wide open spaces as its roots system is more shallow and with the quick growth habit it may not always hold up well in the wind. As we speak from experience ourselves, ours have done well, but in our research feel it is fair to mention that it may not be a tree for a normally, wind damage, prone area. This beauty has rich green leaves in the summer and very stunning orange to bright red leaves in the fall. It is sure to impress!
